The first annual, inaugural Christmas Tree festival will kick off Friday October 18, 2024 from 3:00pm - 9:00pm and include Saturday October 19, 2024 from 10:00am - 9:00pm.

As the new year begins and memories of Christmas celebrations remain, we are excited to extend an invitation to you to become a sponsor of the inaugural 2024 Christmas Tree Festival. This event promises to be a celebration of joy and community spirit and become a beloved tradition for years to come. As an invited sponsor, your involvement will contribute to the success of the festival, strengthen ties with residents, and bring exposure to thousands of visitors who flood to the High Country each fall.
The inaugural Christmas Tree Festival will kick-off on Friday October 18h, 2024, in Newland, North Carolina, the Fraser Fir Christmas Tree Capital of the World. The festival will be held on the third weekend in October and begins at 3:00pm on Friday & Saturday and ends at 9:00 p.m. each day.
The High Country welcomes 30,000+ visitors to the area the third weekend of October during The Valle Country Fair and The Woolly Worm festivals. The Christmas Tree Festival will now be the main afternoon and evening attraction for visitors as the other festivals end between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. The State Police have expressed support for the addition of The Christmas Tree Festival to address traffic control issues by drawing visitors away from the congested areas of Banner Elk and Valle Crucis. This date will also allow us to support local tree growers who typically start the busy harvest season on the first day of November.
As part of the festivities, seasonal decorations will include approximately 4,000 feet of lighting strung along the perimeter fence at the town square, on the gazebo, and trees inside the fenced area. The Newland Christmas Tree Festival will illuminate the trees and festive lights on every remaining weekend through Christmas from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The National Christmas Tree Dedication to the White House will have part of its official sendoff ceremony during the festival.
More than 40 Christmas tree growers and 50 local artisans and vendors have already committed to participate, and the list is growing daily. Mountain Electric will provide drop-down electrical wiring along with110-volt and 220-volt outlets to feed electricity to trees donated by tree growers and for vendor use. Running water will be provided by the town of Newland.
With the support of the Mayor, Aldermen, and Town Manager of Newland, along with the Avery County Manager, festival permits allow for closure of some of the roads surrounding the town square the weekend of the festival with an option for the following eight weekends until Christmas. Shuttle buses have been arranged for transportation of visitors and will assist in keeping other roads open throughout the celebration. The drop-off point is at the now closed Lowe’s Groceries parking lot. All foot traffic will enter the square by passing the museum in the caboose next to the courthouse.
The Shriners Club will be co-hosting The Christmas Tree Festival and offer as many volunteers as needed in return for 50% of the net profits raised. A $25,000 All-Festival Sponsorship offers all the above plus this business entity shall be named as the official sponsor of the festival in all future media events. This level will be constrained to having only one sponsoring entity.
